Blink Of An Eye
Wow... I cannot believe it has been almost 2 weeks back in Canada. Time truly does fly... The adjustment the last little while has been an interesting one. I have personally found it just a little too easy to slip back into the sometimes self absorbed culture that sometimes occurs in our community. But I have also been finding the reverse culture shock tough of being back in the normal routine and wanting so desperately to go back to Kenya. That trip was the best experience of my life and all the memories and people we met will forever hold a place in my heart. I wish I could go back to Kenya and live there but then bring all my loved ones with me. Something I have been struggling with during the adjustment is coming to terms with the fact that I am here in Canada with no worries in the world going to starbucks, hanging with friends downtown, laying on the beach etc and there are people in Kenya who can barely make a dollar a day... Just those 2 thoughts do not sit well with me that majority of the world is not living the blessed life I am. When these thoughts of remembering of all the people I met who were in tough spots come into my head I thank God for all he is given me and pray for the people who need strength and guidance. My trip to Kenya has given me so many new perspectives and lenses to look at life which I am so grateful for, I always want to be able to look back on the things I learned when taking on life.
10 things I learned from Kenya
1. You do not need a lot of money to find happiness
2. I am capable of peeing anywhere if there is no toliet
3. Try to have a people oriented way of looking at the day instead of agenda based
4. You can manage on 3 meals a day snacks are not a must
5. Hakuna Matata
6. Be grateful for everything, and praise God for everything
7. Things will get done when they get done... don't stress
8. Be opened minded to new cultural lenses
9. Drink lots of tea and enjoy each others company
10. Take care of each other
I made a collage of some of the pictures from the trip as a way to remember all the amazing moments and to realize that I truly did leave my heart in Africa!
