2 Days Of Fun with Fadhili Trust
Our time spent with this amazing organization sadly had to come to an end :( So this blog post is just going to recap the last two days which have been super amazing!!
Yesterday was a more relax day compared to the day before when we were tree planting. In the morning we just hung out at the office and met some of the people who get support from Fadhili. We met 3 amazing guys who had some really amazing stories to share. We sat for a couple of hours drinking tea and just enjoying each others company! It was quite lovely to create yet another international friendship :) After mingling we went on a walk to visit some of the homes and to see how the VSL initiative was running. This was a really cool time because it was great to see so many local businesses being so success because of the VSL. We visited this one family's home who had a very amazing story. These 2 girls had to run away from home because in their Maasi tribe they were going to get married off and they did not want that and wanted to go to school so they ran away from home to live with their brother. We visited the home of the brother and I really admired how courageous and strong he was for rebelling and taking in his sisters to allow them to have a great future. It was a wonderful getting to hangout with them and hear their family stories. They were very welcoming and they even wanted to invite us to their rural home for dinner to honour us... it was quite nice sadly we had to decline but I got this cool Maasi necklace as a gift (picture below. This day was an amazing day besides from the fact that some people in the group are very sick, but for the people who were able to go we had a great time mingling and embracing the culture.
Today was another great day!!! I cannot believe that this time next week I will be home :( that makes me sad because I love it here and cannot believe it went by so fast. Today we did some tree planting and got invited to a BBQ lunch. BBQs in Kenya are just a little different from Canadian ones... Instead of burgers and hot dogs they slaughtered a goat for us... In the Kenyan culture this is quite an honour to do this for your guest. I can now add to the things I have done in my life that I have seen a goat be slaughtered... lol. Some people were realy grossed out by it but I sorta thought it was cool to see the anatomy of the goat. After they slaughtered the goat we finished tree planting and it was fun to get my hands dirty and work hard it was very rewarding to see all we had accomplished in helping them. We then went back and enjoyed a yummy meal. Goat is not my favourite cut of meat but the company was great and we had lots of laughs and that is all that matters. It was great to just sit around and enjoy the time we had together.
Having to say good bye to the people at Fadhili was really sad because they are so amazing and we had such a good time together. Throughout this whole trip having to say good bye has been hard because I have enjoyed every single minute spent with everyone. Each person I have interacted with now holds a special place in my heart.
Tmw we are off to the Maasi Mara for a safari so I may not have wifi...
I'll See Ya,
A.S.
