Adventures In Very Rural Kenya
This trip is going by so fast I cannot believe we only have 11 more days!!! After we had a break day at hope gardens the next day we headed out for 5 day road trip to Cherangany. Our 5 day trip was filled with lots of relaxation and new experiences and was perfect to have at the half way point of the trip because it was a great recharge time. Our adventure was a change of pace which was nice and helped reenergized me to be able to make it through the rest of the trip strong and healthy.
Our first stop was at Hells Gate National Park. While there we went on a short little Safari which got me excited for the huge safari we will be going on next week in the Masai Mara. After the the drive through the park we got out and went for a hike through the gorge. This walk for me was very amazing because the scenery was so beautiful. It was also pretty intense some of the places we had to walk to continue the hike. Both this hike and the hike at MCF gave me a confidence boost that I can face my fear of heights. From these hikes I have had to trust my body and even though I felt nervous sometimes I enjoyed embracing the adventures.
After the hike we headed Lake Naivasha. The resort we stayed on was so beautiful it reminded me sort of like lodges that are up north like Bartlett and Arrowhon. We only spent a night here but the time spent would of been one of the highlights of my trip. The resort itself was so beautiful and peaceful but it was also good quality time with the group and that is what I cherished the most. We first went on this beautiful boat ride across the lake where we were able to see a ton of hippos and also have good life chats and then after that we just relaxed till dinner. Dinner was the highlight of my time here because I got myself a big pizza which I had been craving and then we had a hours of very in depth conversations and debates. I feel as a Canadian culture we have lost the art of socializing face to face and I really cherished the time of the group just sitting around the table enjoying each others company. For anyone looking for a place for their next vacation I recommend camp Carnelly's on lake Naivasha. This place is so beautiful, the food is amazing, the cabins are adorable, and the culture is great.
The next morning we headed out for our 6 hour drive to Cherangany where we would be staying in the guest house of Wesley Korir who is an MP of Kenya. The guest house was in the middle of a corn field which was really cool. We spent time with Tara Korir and her kids, the time spent at their guest house was such a blessing. The reason we got in touch was them was because they started a running academy program which works on getting Kenyan athletes scholarships to the states. We had a very relaxing time for the few days and it is sort of hard to describe because the feeling was so peaceful and was a sort of you have to be there to understand. We also learned a lot while there and I really appreciate the time we got to spend with them. Somethings we did were visiting through the village
and visiting Wesleys family members homes, we went to a community dairy project, a farm, the school the running academy attends and then just enjoying rural kenya. The area we were in was so beautiful and untouched it looked like something from a painting. The time spent here was a major blessing and good recharge time! I also had to overcome a fear and put my inner diva to rest because we were in such a rural area there were bugs everywhere and I had to get used to that... very good learning experience.
After our stay there we headed to Iten and stayed at this gorgeous resort that looked over a cliff and I am drawing a blank on what the view was called...oops! Anyways Iten is called the home of champions and is the place most elite runners visit and stay at. We saw some famous runners during our stay which was cool. This place is popular for runner because of the altitude and lets just say I could feel it... I was breathing heavy just by walking up the hills!
After a long day of road tripping we are back at our home base and will be here for a few days before heading out again. More frequent blog posts to come! apologies for any errors or crazy phrased sentences!
I'll See Ya,
