This trip is going by so fast I cannot believe we only have 11 more days!!! After we had a break day at hope gardens the next day we headed out for 5 day road trip to Cherangany. Our 5 day trip was filled with lots of relaxation and new experiences and was perfect to have at the half way point of the trip because it was a great recharge time. Our adventure was a change of pace which was nice and helped reenergized me to be able to make it through the rest of the trip strong and healthy. Our first stop was at Hells Gate National Park. While there we went on a short little Safari which got me excited for the huge safari we will be going on next week in the Masai Mara. After the the drive through the park we got out and went for a hike through the gorge. This walk for me was very amazing because the scenery was so beautiful. It was also pretty intense some of the places we had to walk to continue the hike. Both this hike and the hike at MCF gave me a confidence boost that I can face my ...
Wow... I cannot believe it has been almost 2 weeks back in Canada. Time truly does fly... The adjustment the last little while has been an interesting one. I have personally found it just a little too easy to slip back into the sometimes self absorbed culture that sometimes occurs in our community. But I have also been finding the reverse culture shock tough of being back in the normal routine and wanting so desperately to go back to Kenya. I wish I could go back to Kenya and live there but then bring all my loved ones with me. Something I have been struggling with during the adjustment is coming to terms with the fact that I am here in Canada with no worries in the world going to starbucks, hanging with friends downtown, laying on the beach etc and there are people in Kenya who can barely make a dollar a day... Just those 2 thoughts do not sit well with me that ma...
This week we have been spending our time at this organization called Fadhili Trust. This is an amazing organization which helps local communities and people who are in tough situations. They help people through village savings and loan associations ( type of micro-finance). They do this to help people create business and increase income. Our first day with them we had an introduction of the organization and then we visited a small private school. The visit was super fun because they stopped all the classes to meet us. Everyone was so welcoming and we were given the honour to talk with the students in their classes which was really cool because they had so many good questions about Canada. After the school visit we went and had 2 home visits of 2 of the beneficiaries of Fadhili. The stories of the people we have met have been very emotional. The one lady we met lives by herself because Fadhili is supporting her kids to go to boarding school which takes a burden off her ...
